SC extends order restraining Puducherry govt from executing Cabinet decisions

During the meeting, the Puducherry government said it had taken three Cabinet choices.

The Supreme Court on Friday expanded its July 4 request limiting the Congress-drove Puducherry government from actualizing any Cabinet choices having money related ramifications.

An excursion Bench of Justices Deepak Gupta and Surya Kant presented the case relating on the power tussle between Lieutenant Governor (LG) Kiran Bedi and the Union Territory government for further hearing on July 10.

During the conference, the Puducherry government said it had taken three Cabinet choices, which incorporate the conveyance of free rice to all apportion card-holders, renaming a division and unloading a debilitated processing plant.

Senior backer Kapil Sibal, showing up for the administration, looked for an adjustment of the court's June 4 request to permit the usage of one of the Cabinet choices — free dissemination of rice. He said the plan had been running for as far back as 10 years.

Specialist General Tushar Mehta, showing up for the LG, questioned the request, saying it would have monetary ramifications. He said the choice to give free rice to all apportion card-holders was a populist move. He, be that as it may, said he was happy to surrender to the condition that free rice was offered distinctly to those having a place with BPL (underneath destitution line).

Reacting to this, Mr Sibal said that passing a request for the BPL just would add up to adjusting an administration's approach.

The Bench at that point posted the case for hearing in July.

Prior, the Center and the LG's office had moved the top court for lucidity on the issue of power over civil servants in the wake of a turf war between the LG and Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy.

The Center and the LG had tested a Madras High Court decision, passed on April 30, which checked the LG's forces to meddle in the everyday organization of the Union Territory, particularly when a chosen government was set up.

As a between time alleviation, the LG had looked to reestablish the condition winning under the watchful eye of the High Court decision on the ground that the organization of the Union Territory is probably going to reach a "halt"
